Founded by Donna Adams in 2014 after supporting Shiregreen Sports Club by completing training to enhance the players abilities it highlighted the need for a coach within the local community. Background on Shiregreen Sports Badminton Club

 

SSBC was launched after the successful Badmintonathon initiative in October 2011. Twelve players successfully tackled the Guinness World Record which stood at 28 hours 37 seconds, to set a new record of 29 hours. 

Whilst doing that some £5,000 was raised for children’s charity NSPCC. 

Over 100 people turned up to support the event and research found there is high interest in a community badminton club to launch in Shiregreen. 

We successfully bid for Community First funding, which subsidies court costs for players, provides equipment for use and offers a simple platform to help other sporting clubs to develop in the area.
